At the turn of the century, the land comprising Island Home Park was subdivided and the first houses were built around 1910. There was a trolley route from downtown that traveled across the Gay Street Bridge, and the neighborhood was serviced via Island Home Boulevard.
Today, the area where the trolley once ran is a large, tree-lined boulevard that, along with the park on the river, serves as a gathering spot for the neighborhood. Boasting one of the best collection of Craftsman style homes in the city, Island Home also has homes literally from every decade since 1910 and thus is very diverse.
